THE 10% OF OUR BRAIN’S CAPACITY.

The last time we started with certain misconceptions that most people hold about the brain. We discussed the first one which was:

The brain cannot change.

I hope you learnt a lot from that. If you haven’t seen it, go and check it out.

Now today we will be talking about the second misconception which is we only use 10% of our brains capacity.

This has been the basis of movies like [Lucy] which depicted what would happen if a person uses all of his brain’s capacity.

But what really is the missing truth?

According to a survey from 2013:

Around 65% of Americans believe that we only use 10% of our brain’s capacity.

According to an interview with Neurologist Barry Gordon in scientific American.

He explained that the majority of our brain is always active.

Are there other proofs to this?

Yes. Neuroscientists now have tools for creating images and tracking the activity of living functioning brain. The best known of these are the PET(Positron Emission Tomography) and FRMI(Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging).

Here are some images to give you a gist of what I am saying.

In fact these tools prove the opposite of this misconception.

If we only used 10% of our brain’s capacity then, majority brain will go dark because of inactivity.

In my opinion, this misconception goes beyond logical. At first I believed it after watching the movie:

Lucy.

But later when I started to study and analysed I found that it wasn’t true.

In the movie Lucy, it tried to illustrate what happens when we use more than 10% of our brains capacity. If a person is able to use 100% then he has reached a state of a god and it doesn’t make sense.

What makes it unreal is the fact that there hasn’t been anyway to show how a person can use more than 10% and no one has ever come out proved if those methods works(even though there is none). No one has ever come out to say I am now able to use more than 10% of my brain.

So I think it is all a misconception.

One thing to note is that:

Even persons with degenerative neutral disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease still use more than 10% of their brain’s capacity.

So in all we use more than that.

The problem doesn’t lie in how to tap into more than 10% of the brain’s capacity. I think most people believe this because they want to become better than they are and become more smarter. But that isn’t how the world works.

We use 100% of our brain’s capacity but the problem is most people don’t know how to use it. So when they find people smarter than them, they begin to think that the person has tapped into more than 10% of his brain.

If you want to become smarter it lies in being able to solve problems and come up with ideas not trying to tap into something that is already full.

I have written other articles on how to be smarter and if you haven’t checked that out, you can do so right now.

Remember you use more than 10% of your brain’s capacity but your ability to solve problems and come up with ideas is what makes you expectonal.

Thank you and see you in the next article.
